The cub led the way ahead, with the creature close behind,
Through trees, bushes and hedgerows, he wondered what they’d find.
Human creatures dwelled here; they passed houses and a school,
Until they reached a garden with a trampoline and pool.
With such curious human things they howled and laughed with delight!
They jumped, they paddled, they swung, until the middle of night.
Finally they tired themselves, so they lay down for a rest,
And now the creature was still, his thoughts returned to his quest.
“The stars have lived a long life,” said fox, gazing up at the sky,
“Perhaps you could talk to them, perhaps their wisdom’s worth a try?”
“Oh dear fox,” sighed the creature, “that’s such a lovely idea,
But they’re ever so far away, they’ll never hear me from here!”
The fox turned to the trampoline, “Fear not, I have a plan!
I’m certain you could reach them, just jump as high as you can!”
And with that the grateful creature hugged his fox friend goodbye,
He got back on the trampoline, and jumped into the sky.
