Tolcarne Beach

A soft golden sand bay, Tolcarne is notorious for its iconic rows of nostalgic-feeling beach huts and home of the famed ‘Tolcarne Wedge’.

This beautiful crescent bay near the centre of Newquay is found sandwiched between Lusty Glaze and Great Western beaches, offering flour-soft sand underfoot and far-reaching scenic views of the surrounding headlands. Like the rest of this special stretch of coastline, as the ocean retreats at low tide the bays connect to create one, gorgeous expanse of Champagne-hued sand that can be walked from one end to the other (please exercise due caution). A relatively sheltered beach, Tolcarne is extremely popular with families due to the stunning scenery, easy swimming and rock pools to explore. It’s also a favourite haunt for surfers and sea fishing, and with a top-tier restaurant serving fresh seafood and expertly spun cocktails, a beachside café for relaxed grazing, plus beach hut lock-ups mere steps from the water’s edge, it’s not hard to see why folk return again and again.

BEACH ACCESS

The sugary sands of Tolcarne can be reached two ways; brave the 200-odd steps that follow the cliff face down to the shoreline (please beware, although there is a handrail, some of the steps are uneven and deep in places), or descend via the gentler yet still sheer, slope.
