We’ve been named as the top holiday destination in the UK, according to new research by Go Outdoors. Looking at data around hotels, activities, local transport, weather and overall popularity, a fresh list has been released of 2024’s ‘best’ UK staycations.
Coming in with near-perfect marks, Newquay was crowned in first place with a score 9.72 out of 10. Scarborough came second and Canterbury third.
Go Outdoors says: “Located on the north coast of Cornwall, the town is well known for its sandy beaches, with the Atlantic Ocean lapping at its shore. Popular with beach-enthused tourists, Newquay has 27.2 activities per km2 and an average annual temperature of 11.4 degrees C, which rises to 16 degrees C on average during summer.

Go Outdoors continue “Visitors can enjoy attractions such as the Newquay Zoo and Lane Theatre and the countless beaches, including Fistral beach which is dog-friendly. Popular on social media, there are 59.8k posts on Instagram alone using the hashtag #Lovenewquay
Social media users primarily share pictures of Newquay’s gorgeous beaches and coastline. Almost three-quarters (74.7 per cent) of hotels are rated four out of five and higher by users.
Cornwall was also named the best camping holiday destination choice. Go Outdoors added: “Known for its beautiful beaches and coastlines, it’s perhaps no surprise that Cornwall comes first among the UK regions best for camping holidays, scoring an outstanding 9.98 out of 10.
