Cornish mizzle guide

We’ve had a fun sprinkling of Summer recently, but we know how important it is to make the most of your Summer holidays even when the sun decides to hide so we’ve compiled a great free and low cost list to keep you active come rain or shine!

  1. The Beach

We know, it’s not everyone’s first choice when it comes to rainy days BUT it’s still fun for all the family and the kids still love it! The sea provides great waves when the weather slightly off so head to a local lifeguarded beach with your bodyboards or hire a surfboard straight from the beach to get wet in your wetsuits, we have some wonderful beach cafes where you can stay warm and dry over a hot cuppa too!

2. Bluereef

Head to Bluereef aquarium, located on Newquay’s town beach ‘Towan’, you’ll find Newquay’s very own sealife centre brimming with local and exotic sea creatures from jellyfish to sharks. Keep an eye out for their events too as the little ones complete trails in exchange for prizes, learn fun facts with interactive learning on their way around and enjoy keeper talks & feeds throughout the day.

3. Go find it! Game

Take advantage of our #BeNewquay campaign designed to get you involved in all things local. A great game for the kids whilst learning all about our local environment

Try these 5 to get you started:

  • “Go find it, something spiky” – Head across the rock pools in search of crabs
  • “Go find it, something that floats” – Head to the harbour in search of boats
  • “Go find it, something yellow” – Use the viewpoint binoculars to spot the sea ‘buoys’ floating in the ocean
  • “Go find it, something that swims” – Another harbour find, if you’re lucky you’ll spot the resident seal (please keep your distance as these animals may bite and need peace so as to not upset their local environment)
  • “Go find it, something you can ride” – At Terrance gardens, you’ll find a skatepark, local playground and small model village train ride that you can actually go on!

We’d encourage a local stick of rock or ice cream as a prize for this one, of which there are plenty of shops in town to explore! Share your photos with us #BeNewquay @lovenqy

4. Indoor attractions

If you fancy visiting an indoor or all-weather attraction here’s a list of some you’ll find in Newquay

5. Coastal walk & Coffee shop hop

If like us you love Newquay no matter the weather, you’ll enjoy exploring Newquay’s coastal walks and you’ll come across some hidden gems in the process- we won’t spoil that for you but you’ll spot everything from ice cream holes in the wall to pancakes on the clifftop! Tag your coastal journeys #lovenewquay we’d love to share them!
